CHIP-8: an interpreter in JavaScript

A project for exploring instruction execution and running CHIP-8 games directly in the browser.

Space Invaders running in the CHIP-8 interpreter

CHIP-8 is a small virtual machine known for its compact programs and games. I implemented an interpreter in JavaScript to explore how its instructions execute.

Interpret a machine one step at a time

The interesting part is the relationship between the machine’s state and the instruction being processed. Small operations combine to produce drawing, input handling, and the behaviour of a program.

Watch the result and follow the code

The demo shows the interpreter running in the browser. The screenshot uses Space Invaders as a visual example of the result.

The repository is a starting point for studying the interpreter’s structure and how its instructions connect to the display and controls.
