Voxel Engine: block worlds with Java and libGDX

A project exploring procedural generation and the rendering of three-dimensional block-based scenes.

A block scene generated by Voxel Engine

Voxel Engine began with a question: how do you generate and render a block-based scene with a Minecraft-like appearance?

I wrote the project in Java with libGDX, using OpenGL for 3D graphics. The goal was to understand the processes involved in procedural generation and turn them into something visible.

From data to a scene

A block-based world connects two different problems: deciding what occupies each position and turning that information into geometry that can be drawn.

Keeping those stages separate makes the result easier to study. Generation describes the scene; rendering determines how it appears.

A project to explore

The video shows the experiment in action, and the repository contains its implementation. It is a starting point for following the path from world data to the image on screen.
